East Killara is a suburb on Sydney's Upper North Shore in the Australian state of New South Wales.
East Killara is a locality in the Ku-ring-gai Council local government region, 15 kilometers north of Sydney's Central Business District.
The Aboriginal word "Killara" means "permanent" or "always there."
The suburb was developed as a "Gentlemen's Suburb," with the intention that no businesses would be located there. Due to this, there aren't many stores in the suburb's initial construction.
On August 5, 1994, East Killara has declared a separate suburb from Killara.
