Most streets in Beacon Hill are named after military men, notable battles, or places where Australian troops served in World War II. Some of the names are Kokoda Crescent, Owen Stanley Avenue, Lae Place, and Goroka Place.
In August 1949, Beacon Hill Post Office opened but closed in 1986. In 1964 and Beacon Hill High School opened but closed in 2002.
